Did you want white?

Sneak preview into the next leather cuff update:

White. A common request I get. It’s not as easy as it sounds – a lot of work goes into bleaching the tan out of the leather, and then aging and distressing it just right so that it doesn’t look clinical. And then I’ve got to retrofit the cuffs to be able to accept (and remember) leather options on each rez, as well make it easy and intuitive to switch between leather.

Oh, and of course, you can color the new white any shade you want from the Color Ball, so you can get your perfect shade.

Not using leather? There’re goodies too for padded-steel users. Stay tuned 🙂

Anyway, it is done, and with the next update (probably coming out as a Release Candidate), you have a new option when you choose “color…” on the cuff menu.

City Noir is going Adult soon

[14 Sep 2009 Edit: CITY NOIR has switched over to Adult]

Some time in September (I haven’t determined the date yet, but I have received an email from SL telling me the dateline is sometime in September), City Noir will switch over to Adult mode. I need to do this to comply with LL’s new rules.

What does this mean for everyone?

Well, it means if you aren’t flagged for adult content, you cannot visit the Secret Warehouse at City Noir, whether to hang out, shop, or to update your gear (I’ve a Plan B for updating though, read on).

You can get yourself flagged for Adult by:

1 Getting verified:

  • supply payment information (Credit Card or verified Paypal) at SL’s Update Billing Info page (login required) or your shopping funds in XStreetSL.com, OR
  • age-verify with third-party Aristotle from SL’s Age Verification page (login required). Aristotle promises not to keep identity-specific info – they just confirm yes, or no. More info here.

2. Turning on the adult flag in your SL profile:

Note: If you’ve just updated your payment info etc., you may need to relog before you will get the Adult option.

Try TP’ing to the adult mainland hub here. If you can, you’re verified.

What to do with LULU gear if you’re not verified for whatever reason?

You can continue to use LULU gear.

You can also continue to update your gear at the ruins of Lulu’s original Secret Room (Lulu’s very first discreet shoppe) at Wolof, a PG part of Mainland. Please continue to keep it discreet.

The only way is to get someone else who is age-verified to buy it for you as a gift at the Secret Warehouse.

Top Gagette Contest

(Past winners are eligible to win again if they use another gag). Contest ends 31 Aug 2009, PST time.

It’s not easy – you can’t go AFK (going AFK after leveling, or after 24 hours, results in a sudden termination of the Trial). And there’s also SL’s crashes to contend with.

Thanks for voting for VWR-12525 (bottom-inventory bug)

Thanks for voting for VWR-12525.

Andrew Linden has (finally) fixed the bottom-inventory bug that we voted for – though we’ll have to wait a bit to see it. To recap, the bug made it necessary for a workaround to be built into the Signature series setup, increasing the number of steps. It also potentially caused viewers to crash at ill-opportuned times, thus losing stuff.

The fix will be deployed in the next SL server update (either 1.27.2 or 1.30 -> no 1.28 or 1.29 apparently). It could be relatively soon (if 1.2.2) or it could be months (1.30).

Gag Scoreboard and PLUS Cuff Scoreboard are now offline

In line with the previous announcements on the upcoming v.4 Signature Gags, the Top20 Scoreboard will be taken offline with immediate effect. This will allow me to conduct tests on the v.4 Gag.

What this means:

  • the Gag Scoreboard will no longer accept updates from v.3 Gags. (This won’t affect anyone whose best times are less than 81 hours)
  • when the v.4 Gags are out, the Scoreboard will be wiped, and will start accepting scores from v.4 gags.
  • your Circles will not be affected.
  • when the v.4 Gags come out, any Best Time over 24 hours achieved with a v.3 gag will be automatically truncated to 24 hours. This will happen later.

The v.4 Gags are long overdue, and besides a few new features, will work very nicely with the v.5 HUD, which has stabilizer features built in to counter the rather finicky SL world we live in.

As for the PLUS Cuff Scoreboard, I must confess I goofed.

I accidentally took the inworld server to inventory. That means that future updates will not work, because if I rez it again it will be given a new UUID by SL. But then again,the PLUS Cuffs have been superseded by the Signature Cuffs for some time now, so it’s not such a bad idea to conserve sim resources by taking it off line.
