Try not to AIR-REZ your Signature gear in Server 1.25.4

Good news: The recent Server 1.25.4 (the SL software that a sim runs on) rollout across SL means a lot less Mono errors (though Signature gear will auto-recover with Smart Reset).

Bad news: Server 1.25.4 has a bug that sometimes might crash a sim when an object attaches itself to an avie. This obviously affects Signature gear.   (EDIT: Currently it seems like it’s less than a 5% chance, nothing to be overly alarmed about).

Good news: The Lindens are aware of this and are fastracking the fix. Molly Linden tells me they expect this to take “at least a couple of days” as they work out a fix and plan the rollout. They’ve got this on their internal JIRA. Also, if you crash, just log right back in immediately – the sims reboot a lot faster these days because they’ve optimized the simstate file.

What you can do before they fix this:

1. Don’t air-rez the cuffs/gags unless you really have to. Just keep them worn. Or just wear them straight from inventory (cuffs v2.1.0 onwards, on HUD 5.2.1).

2. AFTER SETUP or ACTIVATION, CLICK THE RED-DOT on your HUD to save your setup (even before you click the “cuff wear” or “gag wear” at the end of setup). Otherwise, if you crash, SL will rollback your setup and you will have to setup all over again.

Sorry about this, but things happen.

Signature Cuffs v2.1.1: important changes!

v2.1.1 is out and brings with it major improvements. Among them:

Animation jitter: have you got animation jitter with “refresh on”? Now you can leave “refresh on” without the jitter. So your anim stays cuffed without your AO or other anims (e.g. dance) taking over.

No-rez sims: can’t rez in no-rez sims? No problem. Now you can just re-wear your “used” cuffs straight from inventory – they won’t drop off anymore.

[Edit: the first time you wear the used cuffs from inventory, it will tell you that it “can’t be worn directly from your inventory”. Other than that it stays on and works. The next time you wear the same cuff from inventory it will no longer spam you. Known issue, fixed in next update.]

RLV users: “/1.rlv” calls up an RLV menu for shared folders, forcesit. You can set up the LULU cuffs in Shared Folders.

No-afk: If Doms want their subs to fully savor certain experiences (e.g. while being punished), they can use this. Customizable timers.

New options: Turn off the alarm and emotes (during rez and poses).

Complete new features and bugfixes here.

To update, you need to choose “HUD+Cuffs” to get the new v2.1.1 cuffs. You need to run set-up on the 2.1.1 cuffs, and you need to activate any plugins you have after that. (Remember, only choose “HUD only” if you’re swapping out your HUD if SL has borked your current HUD.)

Tip of the Week #11: Updating Your Gear

Most of you already know that you can update your gear at the Warehouse’ Update Switch.

Here are some additional hints:

1. When asked to wear a cuff/gag, you can already be wearing one and it will verify when you press “ok”.

2. Or if you can rez one – you can even wear a “used” cuff or gag from your inventory. Even if it detaches, it will still verify.

Now that you are verified, you will most probably be presented with 2 options. This can be tricky.

1. Choose “HUD + cuffs/gag” to get a complete set with new cuffs/gag. If your existing cuff/gag is outdated, you need to choose this to get new gear.

2. Choose “HUD only” to get a blank HUD. Choose this when your cuffs/gag is already the latest, but SL has borked your HUD. In effect you’re just swapping HUDs. You can also choose this when there are updates to your HUD, but your cuff/gag versions remain the same.

More details here.

Oh, btw, if you’re updating from v.1 cuffs (and v.4 HUD), the Update Switch will no longer give you the option – it will simply toss you a fresh HUD + cuffs.
